Prior to its release, filmmaker Bosco Prabhu accused Mithran for plagiarizing his story. The film was wide released on 20 December 2019. The music for the film is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, with cinematography done by George C. Mithran, Pon Parthiban, Savari Muthu and Antony Bhagyaraj. This film marks the Tamil film debuts of Deol and Kalyani Priyadarshan. It stars Sivakarthikeyan, Arjun, Abhay Deol, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Ivana in prominent roles. The emotional sequences have been handled very well. The background score is pulsating and builds the tension and required impact efficiently. Not a single action sequence has any glitches and the visual effects are outstanding. All the action scenes are simply flawless and executed masterfully.
The film also has a great cinematography. His character has been sketched extremely well. Arjun plays a menacing villain whose actions can make you feel afraid of him at times. Samantha is impressive and thankfully not just another heroine added without a purpose. He has brought out all possible emotions a brave yet tensed man can have when in trouble. Vishal does an effective job in his role. Songs elevate the narrative to a higher level. There is no romance or duets/dance numbers, something unusual and excellent for a film of this kind. The film excels in character development, technical aspects, action sequences, emotions and edge of the seat twists. IRUMBU THIRAI is hands down one of the best films of the year it deserves truck loads of awards. The theme and its projection is so realistic and close to reality, that I don't think a sane person would actually dislike it. Mithran has done an outstanding job with this film. Taking the refreshing concept of cyber crime and turning it into an enjoyable action thriller is something very few directors are capable of doing, successfully. This one also is, but what it excels even more in is the screenplay as a whole. I like his movies because they're action packed and entertaining. IRUMBU THIRAI stars the action star Vishal in the lead role.
